Puerto Rico and Sophie at 18 + 19 Months

Sophie turned 19 months old earlier this month – and since my last update was just after the 15-month mark, I figured it was high time for an update! And it’s a nice opportunity to share a few photos from our trip to Puerto Rico a few weeks ago. But be prepared: Sophie still looked like a baby in my last update, and these days she is very much a toddler. I still can’t believe how fast time is flying!

The big news is that Sophie is walking – and running – everywhere and anywhere these days! There are times that she still wants to be picked up and carried, but typically she’ll request “down” or “walk” wherever we go. We discovered a little plaza full of pigeons in Old San Juan during our trip to Puerto Rico, and it was hands down Sophie’s favorite part of the entire trip. She wasn’t chasing the pigeons (at least intentionally) – she wanted to give them all hugs!

We’ve really enjoyed watching Sophie’s personality emerge over the last few months. She is generally a happy child, full of smiles, laughs, and the occasional high five for everyone around her. She has a wonderful sense of humor and, like any toddler, loves to play – current favorites include peekaboo, both duplo and wood blocks, and pretty much anything on wheels. She’s also independent and stubborn (just like her mama), and thoughtful and curious (just like her papa). And so many words! She seems to learn a new word every day. It’s amazing to see her verbal skills develop right in front of us.

But as we leave Sophie’s babyhood, we’ve also started to experience some of the tantrums and frustrations of toddlerhood. She gets frustrated when she lacks the words to communicate something to us or doesn’t have the physical ability to do something she wants to do. And Sophie has already figured out that she doesn’t have to do everything we tell her to do, which makes for some interesting experiences as she pushes her limits and we try to reinforce good habits and boundaries. Parenthood!

A few days after we came home from Puerto Rico, the cherry blossom trees (finally!) bloomed in DC. We took Sophie to our local cemetery one evening, where many of our neighbors walk their dogs, to see the blossoms in person. Sophie was in heaven, but not so much for the blossoms. She loooooves dogs and wanted to say hello to every dog she passed – she didn’t want to go back home!

The last few months have been some of the most exhausting (so. much. toddler. energy!) but also some of the most fun in my time as a parent. I can’t wait to see what the next few months bring!

Abigail + Tim’s Art Nouveau Wedding Invitations

Ooooh, I’m loving the combination of green and coral in these vintage-inspired wedding invitations from our friends (and DIY contributors!) Bailey and Emma of Antiquaria. Inspired by the bride’s love of Art Nouveau era posters and the idea of an outdoor garden party, the invitations feature hand lettering and illustrations of the couple’s two dogs. So cute!

From Bailey and Emma: Abigail and Tim asked us to design an invitation suite for their wedding this past June. Abigail described the wedding as being a vintage garden theme using shades of green and coral. She wanted an invitation that looked like a vintage Art Nouveau poster and that incorporated her two beloved dogs, Nipper and Ginny. We took the challenge head on and designed a poster-like invitation that incorporated everything on her wish list.

The design itself included illustrations of her dogs and accents of hand lettering which helped make the design look vintage. The design really came to life once it was letterpress printed on cotton paper using coral and succulent green inks. In the end, the invitation suite included A6 save the dates, A9 invitations, 4bar reply cards, and a 4×6 hand illustrated map.

We carried the invitation theme through to the reception stationery including programs and thank you cards. Abigail has a love of books, so as favors for the guests we made little keepsake notebooks with an illustration of her dogs reading on the cover.

From the bride, Abigail: We are very much dog people and wanted to find a way to show our love for our pups while keeping the invitations elegant and within our vintage garden party theme. The attention to detail within the design really helped to personalize the invitation and we especially loved the map with the silhouettes of our dogs. Tim and I are both big readers and love to write, draw, and create. The notebook favors illustrated this side of us perfectly and looked gorgeous paired with Blackwing pencils (a favorite of famous composers and writers) on the tables with all the flowers.

Before the wedding I was thinking of not putting much effort into wedding invitations, but I am so glad I changed my mind because these are one of my favorite things from the wedding and will be a treasured keepsake for years to come.

Happy Weekend!

Happy Friday everyone! And greetings from Alt Summit! It has been so fun to connect with old friends and meet new ones over the last couple of days! Between a long weekend, two snow days in DC, and traveling to Salt Lake City, this week has been a complete whirlwind. Today is the second and final day of Alt, and tomorrow I fly home to my little family in DC. I’ve missed them so much! But in the meantime…

Happy Weekend!

Happy Friday everyone! Did you all have a happy Halloween? Sophie was a little lion and all ready to hand out candy, but it was rainy and windy so we didn’t get as many trick or treaters as we had expected. More candy for us I guess? Anyway, I’m super excited for this weekend. I’m co-hosting a party for a dear friend due with a baby girl in just a few short weeks! And of course I’m looking forward to sharing the decor and paper details with all of you! But in the meantime…
